This is a question we hear all the time from our consumers and the answer is nuanced and can vary depending on what you mean by ‘natural’.
Let's start by having a look at the Oxford English Dictionary's attempt at defining 'natural':
'Existing in or derived from nature; not made or caused by humankind.'
All our supplements satisfy the first half of this definition since they’re derived from nature in one way or another, but the ‘not made by humans’ part, that’s where it gets a little tricky.
Whole food ingredients like Lion’s Mane Mushroom and Ashwagandha are intact extracts of naturally grown foods which are then crushed and put into Peak Pursuit's supplements. Human involvement was kept to a minimum and you could say it easily satisfies the definition.
Other ingredients are synthesised, such as Magnesium Bisglycinate, a highly bioavailable form of Magnesium that our bodies can absorb easily. It's made in a chemical process that takes magnesium and binds it with the amino acid glycine, a natural ingredient that is found in foods and produced by the human body.
Now humans were of course involved in creating Magnesium Bisglycinate so you could say it is not natural according to Oxford’s definition. Does this really make the supplement as a whole unnatural, considering its intent is to deliver magnesium, one of the most abundant elements on earth (the sixth in order of weight abundance), to the body in an effective and efficient way?
These human-made ingredients are designed to mimic the structure and function of natural nutrients. Many consider synthesised supplements to be natural if they are structurally identical to compounds found in nature. In this case, the focus is on supplementing nutrients that have a natural origin rather than being a new synthetic compound.
No matter where you draw the line between synthetic & natural, you can rest assured knowing that all Peak Pursuit supplements deliver nutrients that are found naturally in foods and the human diet. It’s important to mention we prioritise the use of high-quality ingredients. To ensure their purity and safety, we subject them to rigorous testing conducted by a third-party independent laboratory. Our dedication to transparency is evident in our commitment to sharing details about our third-party testing process, which you can explore further here. This commitment is not just for our peace of mind but, more importantly, for the peace of mind of our valued customers.
